Input lag adds up from many small delays. Fix the biggest ones first.

Before you tweak: back up your files and create a system restore point (search "Create a restore point" in Windows). Results vary by hardware and game.

Step by step

  1. Turn V-Sync off in-game; it's one of the largest sources of added delay.
  2. Use G-Sync or FreeSync if your monitor supports it, and cap FPS about 3 below your refresh rate.
  3. Enable NVIDIA Reflex (On + Boost) or AMD Anti-Lag in games that support them.
  4. Play in exclusive fullscreen where available.
  5. Disable Enhance Pointer Precision in Windows mouse settings and use raw input in-game.
  6. Use wired peripherals for competitive play.
  7. Check your monitor's overdrive setting; the middle setting is often best.
